Ambernath | July 10,2025: A disturbing incident has surfaced from Ambernath city in Thane district, where a 12-year-old boy was brutally assaulted by a neighbor inside a lift over a trivial reason. The accused, reportedly enraged because the lift didn’t stop properly, allegedly punched and tried to bite the minor. The entire assault was caught on CCTV, sparking outrage among residents and netizens alike.
The incident occurred on July 4 around 5 pm in the Patel Zenon Housing Project, Palegaon. The victim, Tyagi Pandey, a class-going student, was heading down from his 14th floor flat when the lift stopped on the ninth floor. Seeing no one, he attempted to close the lift door. At the same moment, Kailash Thawani, a resident of the ninth floor, entered and suddenly attacked the child.
Without any warning, Thawani began beating Tyagi inside the lift, allegedly for not stopping the lift. Shockingly, he even attempted to bite the boy’s hand. A female housekeeper present in the lift had the presence of mind to stop it on the ground floor and escort the frightened child out. However, Thawani followed them into the lift lobby and continued the assault.
Following the incident, Tyagi’s mother immediately approached the Shivajinagar police station. Shockingly, the police initially filed only non-serious bailable charges, which led to strong resentment from the boy’s family and local residents. It was only after four days of public pressure that a formal case was registered under more serious sections.
The viral CCTV footage has triggered public outrage, with residents slamming police inaction and demanding justice. Citizens have also criticized the initial apathy shown by law enforcement, questioning their response in a case involving violence against a minor.
The police now say that further action is being taken and the accused will be dealt with strictly. However, this incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for swift justice in child safety cases.
