Maharashtra will modernise six ITIs with ₹120 crore foreign investment to train 5,000–7,000 students annually in port and logistics skills, supporting projects like Vadhavan Port and boosting employment.

Mumbai | July 10, 2025: In a major boost to skill development for the ports and logistics sector, the Maharashtra government has partnered with Atal Solutions Pvt Ltd and global credit agencies from the Netherlands, Denmark, and Poland to modernise six Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in the state. This public-private initiative, backed by a ₹120 crore investment, aims to train 5,000–7,000 students annually in specialised, world-class port-related skills.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Vidhan Bhavan in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Skill Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane, and international stakeholders including Atal Solutions BV International (Netherlands) MD Edwin Cieswerta.

CM Fadnavis highlighted that this partnership would support massive infrastructure projects like Vadhavan Port by ensuring a steady stream of locally trained professionals. He reiterated the state’s commitment to making Maharashtra a national and global leader in skill development through public-private collaboration.

In the first phase, ITIs in Mumbai, Pune, Baramati, Sindhudurg, Nagpur, and Nashik will be upgraded. Minister Lodha underscored the role of ITIs as vital engines of employability and economic upliftment, noting this move aligns with NEP 2020, Skill India Mission, Maharashtra’s 2025 ITI Modernisation Policy, and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Ports Minister Nitesh Rane stressed the urgent requirement for a skilled, future-ready workforce to cater to high-growth areas like maritime logistics and port operations at major ports like JNPT and Vadhavan. He added that such collaborations would drive job creation and significantly enhance Maharashtra’s economic prospects.
