Satara | July 22, 2025: A shocking incident unfolded in Satara’s Basappa Peth area, where a knife-wielding youth threatened a schoolgirl in broad daylight, allegedly driven by a one-sided obsession. The timely intervention of local citizens and swift police action averted a possible tragedy, though not before panic and chaos gripped the area.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m., when the minor girl was returning from school. The accused, reportedly infatuated with the girl, stopped her in the middle of the road and forcibly took her aside. In a disturbing turn, he pulled out a sharp knife and held it to her throat, reportedly yelling, “I’ll kill you!”

As terrified onlookers began to gather, the young man continued threatening the girl, warning that he would harm her if anyone dared to come close. Despite the knife in his hand, local residents remained calm and immediately alerted the police.

Upon reaching the scene, police attempted to talk the youth into surrendering. Simultaneously, a courageous local youth climbed down a wall behind the accused and, approaching stealthily, managed to snatch the knife. Other bystanders rushed in to overpower the assailant. The crowd then beat the youth before handing him over to the police.

In the scuffle, the girl sustained a minor injury to her neck from the knife. The youth who intervened also suffered a small cut on his hand. Both received medical attention, while the accused was taken into custody and admitted to the district hospital.

Preliminary information suggests the accused had been nursing a one-sided romantic obsession with the girl, which led to this violent outburst. District Superintendent of Police Tushar Joshi stated that a case will be registered once the girl provides her statement. He also added that the legal course of action will depend on the accused’s age.

Footage of the shocking incident was captured on mobile phones by bystanders, further fueling public concern. Teachers and the founder of the girl’s school reached the Shahupuri Police Station following the event. The city remains shaken, with growing concern about the safety of schoolgirls and rising incidents of stalking and harassment.
