Ashish Shelar assured US-based Marathi schools of curriculum support from the Maharashtra government, aiming to help over 50 community-run institutions preserve language and culture through structured education.
Mumbai | 25 July, 2025: During his US visit, Maharashtra’s IT and Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar assured that the state government will provide official curriculum support to Marathi schools operating in the United States.
He met with representatives of the Maharashtra Board, which has been running a Marathi school in San Francisco’s Bay Area since 2005. Currently, around 300 students are enrolled there, learning Marathi language, history, culture, and folk traditions to preserve their roots abroad.
Minister Shelar acknowledged the efforts of the Marathi community in the US, where over 50 such community-run schools are active. School representatives requested official curriculum support to make it easier to conduct structured Marathi language classes, hold exams, and issue certificates.
In response, Shelar assured that he would discuss the matter with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and School Education Minister Dada Bhuse to ensure government support and facilitate the curriculum and recommendations needed to strengthen these overseas Marathi institutions.
