Aamir Khan, addressing old controversies around PK and “love jihad” remarks, stated that true love between people of different religions is about humanity, not agenda. “Love is beyond religion,” he said.
June 17, 2025 | Mumbai : Bollywood star Aamir Khan, often known for his intense roles and bold opinions, has once again sparked public discourse—this time by speaking candidly about the ‘love jihad’ controversy linked to his 2014 blockbuster film PK.
While promoting his upcoming film, Aamir appeared on Rajat Sharma’s show Aapki Adalat, where old questions surrounding PK resurfaced. The film, though widely successful, had been accused of hurting Hindu sentiments at the time of its release, particularly due to its plotline involving a Hindu girl and a Pakistani Muslim character.
When asked if the film PK promoted love jihad, Aamir Khan responded with clarity and calm: “When people from two religions come together in love, it’s not love jihad every time. It’s humanity.” He elaborated further, emphasizing that love transcends religion, and reducing every interfaith relationship to a political conspiracy was unjust and inhuman.
“If two hearts unite, it should be celebrated, not questioned. My own family is an example,” Aamir added.
He shared personal stories to underline his point:
- His sister Nikhat married Santosh Hegde, a Hindu.
- His younger sister Farat married Rajiv Dutta, also a Hindu.
- His daughter Ira Khan recently married Nupur, a non-Muslim.
“So are all of these love jihad? Or are they simply love?” he questioned.
PK, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, featured Aamir as an alien who questions religious dogmas and societal norms. At the time, many groups felt the film mocked religious practices, especially in Hinduism. Aamir was trolled, criticized, and even boycotted for a brief period.
But now, with time passed, Aamir chose to explain the intention behind the film: “The film wasn’t against any religion. It was against blind faith, against exploitation in the name of religion.” In a world often divided along religious and cultural lines, Aamir Khan ended his statement with a heartfelt note:
“Love is the biggest thing in the world. Bigger than religion, bigger than hate. It brings people together.”
