During Shravan, Ghrishneshwar Temple suspends abhishek rituals to manage crowds. Devotees can still offer flowers and belpatra. Temple to remain open 24 hours; decision limited to Shravan month only.
Pune | 25 July, 2025: As the holy month of Shravan begins, the Shri Ghrishneshwar Temple in Verul, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar—one of the twelve revered Jyotirlingas—has witnessed a surge in the number of devotees arriving for darshan. In light of the growing crowd, the temple trust has taken a significant decision: the abhishek ritual will remain suspended throughout the month of Shravan to streamline the darshan process and reduce congestion.
The Ghrishneshwar Devasthan Trust has announced that while the abhishek (ritual bathing of the Shivling) will be restricted, devotees will still be allowed to enter the sanctum and offer traditional offerings like white flowers, belpatra (betel leaves), and dhoti flowers directly on the Shivling. This step aims to strike a balance between managing the crowd and respecting religious sentiments.
To further accommodate devotees, the temple will remain open 24 hours a day during the entire month. The trust clarified that this is a temporary measure, applicable only for the duration of Shravan. Any decision regarding the resumption of abhishek will be taken after assessing the situation at the end of the month.
The trust has also appealed for public cooperation and urged devotees to support the decision in the spirit of maintaining order and ensuring a peaceful darshan experience for all.
