After locals set off an alert, Chikhli's Hidden Menace Busted Illegal Liquor Den Razed
Illegal alcohol den inside Chikhli work camps dismantled in response to safety concerns. Residents want police searches and suspect illegal immigrants. MLA Mahesh Landge mediated to bring peace by calling quick police response.
Pune, May 03, 2025: For the people of Chikhli, a great relief came from the demolition of an illegal country booze store running inside a labor camp after several public disturbance reports raised safety issues. Comprising more than 3,000 workers and situated dangerously near to residential areas like Harrison and Legacy Riverside, the camp had developed as a hub for regular brawls and bad behaviour.
Locals reported several spine-chilling incidents, such as workers supposedly hurling abuses, acting rudely, and even acts of stone-pelting against buildings. The women, children, and old were particularly targeted; many of them have voiced immense concerns regarding their safety. The situation became further astray when individuals approached local BJP MLA Mahesh Landge, who then instructed the Pimpri-Chinchwad police.
Acting swiftly, the police shattered the alcohol dens, thus establishing much-needed serenity in the neighborhood. The action is an adaptation of a broader state-wide crackdown on beer shops violating standards, especially ones operating within or close to cities.
The notion of illegal immigrants—probably Bangladeshi nationals—living within the camp adds to the villagers’ discomfort. Now locals have demanded a comprehensive police verification campaign to identify the citizens and guarantee law and order be kept.
