Deputy CM Ajit Pawar announced plans to establish three new municipalities in Pune district, including Manjari-Fursungi-Urali Devachi, Chakan, and Hinjewadi, aiming to tackle urban issues and traffic congestion.
Pune | August 8, 2025: Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister of Pune, Ajit Pawar, has made a major announcement during his visit to Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad today, declaring that three new municipalities will be formed in the Pune district to tackle growing urbanization and infrastructure needs. One municipality will cover the Manjari, Fursungi, and Urali Devachi areas, while another will be created for the Chakan region, and a third municipality will be developed in the Hinjewadi and nearby upper areas.
During his city tour that began early this morning, Ajit Pawar held critical meetings to address traffic congestion in Chakan. He directed officials from the National Highway Authority, PMRDA, the District Collector’s office, and the Municipal Commissioner to act swiftly and assured the public that the traffic crisis would be resolved.
In a detailed statement, Pawar announced that the Talegaon to Shikrapur road will be expanded into a six-lane highway, with funds already being allocated. He also committed to launching the Pune-Nashik elevated road project, stating that infrastructural progress is impossible without these developments. Acknowledging the public’s patience, he emphasized that now is the time to deliver results.
Referring to his experience in urban development, Pawar said, “Earlier, Thane had only one municipal corporation, but today there are several like Navi Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, and Palghar. Likewise, the time has come for new municipal corporations in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Waghwasti, Loni-Kalbhor, Wagholi, and Manjari.” He added that an additional municipality would be required for areas across the river near Hinjewadi.
Ajit Pawar concluded by stating that he would soon discuss these proposals with the Chief Minister and push for necessary administrative steps to form the new municipalities.
