Ch. SambhajiNagar, 25th March 2025: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar recently praised late Vilasrao Deshmukh, calling him the best chief minister he had worked with. The statement came during an interview, a clip of which was shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by Deshmukh’s son, Dhiraj Deshmukh.
Dhiraj Deshmukh posted the video in Marathi, stating, “In an interview with a news channel, when asked who is the best chief minister, Ajit Pawar answered Vilasrao Deshmukh.” This is not the first time Pawar has expressed his admiration for the former CM. In an earlier interview, he had also acknowledged Deshmukh’s leadership skills, highlighting his expertise in managing coalition governments.
Vilasrao Deshmukh: A Stalwart of Maharashtra Politics
Hailing from Latur in the Marathwada region, Vilasrao Deshmukh served as Maharashtra’s chief minister twice but could not complete a full five-year term on either occasion. A strong Congress leader, he held crucial portfolios including revenue, agriculture, home, industries, and education between 1982 and 1995.
Although he faced a setback in the 1995 state assembly elections, he made a comeback in 1999 and was chosen as the chief minister by the Congress. His political acumen and governance skills left a lasting impact on Maharashtra’s political landscape.
