Ajit Pawar Pushes to Make Baramati an Innovation City with Microsoft’s AI Partnership
Baramati is set to become an “Innovation City” with Microsoft’s support. AI training, smart city development, and modern labs will empower youth, women, and farmers for a tech-driven future.
Pune, May 06, 2025: In a major step toward transforming Baramati into a hub of innovation and digital excellence, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has initiated efforts in partnership with Microsoft to declare Baramati an “Innovation City.” A high-level meeting was held at Mantralaya on Monday (May 5) where key developments and collaborations were discussed to bring this vision to life.
With the help of Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Vidya Pratishthan, the government plans to turn Baramati into a technologically advanced city in the manner of Microsoft’s Center of Excellence in Noida and Google’s IT Park in Hyderabad. The idea is to generate jobs on a mass level, facilitate digital education, and implement artificial intelligence (AI) in industries that have a direct impact on people’s daily lives.
AI Training Across All Levels of Education
Microsoft will play a crucial role by setting up AI Centers of Excellence across Maharashtra, starting from Baramati. These centers will train school children, technical college students, postgraduate scholars, and even those in pharmacy, agriculture, and ITI courses. The goal is to equip students with the tools needed to thrive in a digital world and stay ahead in a rapidly evolving job market.
Innovation for Daily Life: Saving Time, Money, and Effort
The state plans to use AI technology in sectors like education, health, water supply, electricity, infrastructure, government offices, and public transport, mirroring successful models like that of Singapore. This technology will help bring transparency, efficiency, and speed to government operations and everyday services for citizens.
A modern AI lab will also be set up under Vidya Pratishthan, where joint training and research programs will be conducted with support from Microsoft and Google. Women and farmers will be special focus groups, with AI training programs already initiated by Krishi Vigyan Kendra now getting an additional push.
Administrative Backing and MoUs
An MoU between the state government and Microsoft has already been signed to support this wide-reaching initiative. The project has the backing of key ministers and officials including Mangalprabhat Lodha, Skill Development Minister, O.P. Gupta, Finance Secretary ,and Sapna Nauharia, Microsoft’s Industry Director and others. Stakeholders from MIDC, the Skill Development Department, and Vidya Pratishthan were present. Veteran leader Sharad Pawar and Sakal Media Group Chairman Prataprao Pawar have also been involved in promoting the use of AI in agriculture and rural development for several years. Their efforts are now being further strengthened by Ajit Pawar’s formal push through the state administration.
