Another alcohol-fueled murder has rocked Akola’s Juna city as a quarrel between neighbors escalated into a fatal stone attack. Police swiftly arrested the accused, reigniting calls for curbing illicit liquor.
Akola | June 21: The crime graph in Akola district continues to rise with disturbing frequency, as yet another murder has rattled residents of Juna city. In a tragic turn of events, a drunken altercation between two neighbors ended with one man losing his life after being struck with a stone.
The victim, Prakash Pappu Jose, and the accused, Pawan Vilas More, shared not just proximity as neighbors but also a bond of friendship. The two were often seen working together and drinking together. But what seemed like routine companionship turned volatile, especially when alcohol entered the mix.
On Saturday night, things spiraled out of control. Prakash, reportedly heavily intoxicated, began verbally abusing Pawan outside his home—something that had become a recurring issue. However, this time Pawan’s patience wore thin. An argument erupted, and tempers flared.
In the heat of the moment, Pawan allegedly picked up a heavy stone nearby and struck Prakash on the head. The blow proved fatal. By the time locals noticed the body early Sunday morning and alerted police, Prakash was found lying in a pool of blood, lifeless.
The Old City Police sprang into action under the direction of Superintendent of Police Archit Chandak, Additional SP Abhay Dongre, and City Sub-Divisional Police Officer Satish Kulkarni. Led by Thanedar Nitin Leverkar, the team swiftly apprehended the accused, who was reportedly trying to flee.
The murder investigation was carried out efficiently with assistance from Police Sub-Inspector Ravindra Karankar, Pankaj Upadhyay, Shrikant Pawar, Sagar Shirsat, and Pawan Dambalkar among others.
This case is the second such incident in recent days, following another brutal murder involving a man killing his nephew using a stone under the influence of alcohol. These back-to-back incidents have raised serious concerns among citizens.
Locals and activists are now vocally demanding a crackdown on the sale and availability of illegal alcohol in Akola. With alcohol emerging as a recurring factor behind these violent crimes, residents are urging Superintendent Archit Chandak to initiate a district-wide clean-up operation against the menace of illicit liquor and rising hooliganism.
