Akola lawyer Saurabh Telgote has been remanded to five days’ police custody for allegedly stalking, harassing, and sending obscene messages to a senior woman officer in the district court.

Akola | July 18, 2025:  In yet another disturbing incident from Akola district—where criminal behavior is reportedly rising—the legal community itself has come under the scanner. A practicing lawyer, described as a “legal scholar,” has been arrested for mentally harassing and molesting a senior woman officer posted at the District and Sessions Court. The accused has been sent to five days’ police custody following a formal complaint by the victim.

The lawyer, identified as 35-year-old Saurabh Dipankar Telgote, a resident of Saraswati Vihar No. 7, Malkapur, had allegedly been stalking the woman officer for several days. Reports say he would loiter in front of her office several times a day, make indecent gestures, and even follow her to her official residence in a four-wheeler, trying to show off.

His harassment escalated as he began sending obscene messages from multiple social media accounts. The situation turned alarming when Telgote forcefully entered the woman officer’s office. When the security guard attempted to stop him, Telgote allegedly assaulted the guard and created a scene. The complaint also mentions that he verbally targeted other women officers by name on multiple occasions.

Fed up with the continued harassment, the senior officer lodged a police complaint on the night of July 16. Based on her detailed statement, the police registered a case under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. Telgote was produced in court on July 17 and has now been remanded in police custody until Tuesday, July 22.

This incident has sparked outrage, with many asking how someone from the legal fraternity—tasked with upholding the law—could become a source of fear and psychological torture. It also casts a troubling light on the safety of women even within judicial spaces.
