Angered by frequent power outages, two youths in Amravati set fire to the Valgaon Mahavitaran office using petrol bottles. The shocking attack sparked panic; police arrested both accused.
Amravati | June 17, 2025: Amid ongoing power outages across Maharashtra due to stormy weather, frustration boiled over in Amravati as two young men took the law into their own hands—setting fire to a government power office. The shocking incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at the Valgaon Mahavitaran Sub-Center in Bhatkuli taluka of Amravati Rural Division.
According to reports, the two accused entered the Khartalegaon sub-center holding four bottles filled with petrol. Enraged over the lack of electricity, they stormed the premises shouting, “We have no light! What are you doing sitting in the office?” Without warning, they poured petrol on the office table and chairs, then threw a lit matchstick—engulfing the area in flames. At the time, Junior Engineer Gopal Ingle, Senior Technician Ajay Dhakade, Gopal Nerkar, and Security Guard Milind Panbude were present. The attackers not only attempted to set fire to the premises but also threatened the employee recording the incident and allegedly tried to harm the on-duty operator.
The fire damaged government documents and office property. In a fit of rage, the assailants also smashed window panes and continued to threaten the staff. Swift action by the employees helped prevent further damage, but the attack has left the workforce shaken. The accused were quickly apprehended and booked under five sections of the IPC, including criminal intimidation, arson, destruction of public property, and obstruction of public duty. Both have since been arrested.
The incident has sparked a serious conversation about employee safety at public utility offices, especially in times of public distress. While power outages—caused by storms and heavy rainfall—have understandably angered citizens, authorities are warning against violent retaliation.
The Mahavitaran department is expected to tighten security at sensitive locations, and police presence may be increased temporarily. Officials reiterated that legal remedies—not violence—are the way to address service issues, and emphasized that such attacks will be met with strict legal action.
