Pune | 07 June,2025: In a big crackdown, Pune’s Faraskhana Police arrested two members of the infamous Andekar Gang, Shivam Udaykant Andekar, 30, and Akash Pardeshi, 30, for extorting ₹48 lakh from a fish market vendor at Ganesh Peth in eight years. The duo and their four to five associates are charged with robbery after brutally snatching ₹90,000 worth of goods from the victim’s stand in May 2025, after the vendor refused to pay more extortion money.
The victim, a 40-year-old shop owner, was coerced into paying ₹50,000 per month from 2016, under the threat of violence by Shivam Andekar, son of ex-corporator Udaykant Andekar. Shivam, a suspected gang member with a record of serious offenses such as extortion and assault, was externed earlier in 2020. Having come back to Pune, he was arrested in 2021 for assaulting police personnel in another incident. Akash Pardeshi coordinated the extortion money collection, including from online transactions, to the tune of ₹48 lakh over time.
The recent act of the gang was where they smashed the vendor’s stall, hurled out commodities worth ₹90,000, and loaded them in a tempo when a payment was skipped. Scared, the seller remained quiet at first but complained on Friday, June 6, 2025. Acting speedily, top police officials, including Deputy Commissioner Nikhil Pingle, Assistant Commissioner Anuja Deshmane, and others, inspected the crime scene. Midnight raids resulted in Shivam and Akash being arrested. The investigation, initiated by Inspector Ajit Jadhav, continues to reveal the extent of the gang’s activities.
