Pune | May 19, 2025: In a continued crackdown on the MD drug racket, the Local Crime Branch arrested Abasaheb Pawar, an absconding accused, from Pune late Saturday night. He was brought back to Tuljapur and handed over to the local police on Sunday morning. This marks the 17th arrest in the high-profile case that has rocked the region.
Earlier, the police filed a chargesheet against 31 individuals. One of the prominent names, former deputy chairman of Tuljapur Panchayat Samiti, Sharad Jamdade, was also recently arrested and sent to seven-day police custody. Authorities believe this network has deep roots, with many yet to be nabbed.
This series of arrests shows not only the depth of the drug network but also raises urgent questions about how such a large-scale supply chain has remained hidden for so long. The involvement of political figures is especially alarming, underscoring the need for stricter enforcement and community vigilance. In rural belts like Tuljapur, where such cases were once rare, the rise in drug trafficking is a concerning sign of the problem spreading beyond urban limits.
