Pune | June 9, 2025: In a deeply distressing incident that has sent shockwaves through Pune’s medical and public communities, 28-year-old Dr. Shyam Vora, a resident doctor at a reputed clinic, was found dead by suicide late Sunday night in his hostel accommodation.
The incident took place around 10 PM in the living area of Dr. Vora’s hostel room. According to investigators, a notable detail has emerged from the scene — Dr. Vora had left behind a piece of paper containing the password to his mobile phone. Authorities believe that the device could hold vital clues regarding his state of mind and any possible triggers that led to the tragedy.
“We are focusing on the contents of the mobile phone. It may help us understand if Dr. Vora was facing personal issues or dealing with any external pressures,” said one of the investigating officers. Several questions remain unanswered: Was there psychological stress? Was he facing any form of harassment or coercion? Or were there personal reasons that led to this extreme step?
Dr. Vora’s death is part of a growing and deeply troubling trend. Just two days ago, a police officer in Pune’s Shivajinagar area died by suicide, and recently, Solapur’s renowned neurophysician Dr. Shirish Valsangkar also took his own life. These incidents have raised alarms across Maharashtra, prompting mental health experts to call for urgent attention to emotional well-being, especially among professionals.
Hospital Authority Clarifies Media Speculation
Some media reports suggesting possible workplace harassment, the hospital where Dr. Vora worked issued an official statement to address the speculation:
“We are deeply saddened to share the unfortunate news that one of our resident doctors, Dr. Shyam Vora, has tragically passed away, apparently by suicide in his hostel room. The matter is currently under police investigation.”
“We would like to firmly state that the ongoing media speculation regarding workplace harassment is entirely baseless and factually incorrect. We respectfully urge both the public and media to avoid conjecture until the authorities conclude their investigation.”
“Our thoughts are with Dr. Vora’s family, friends, and colleagues during this time of profound grief.”
