Removed aquatic plants at Nagpur’s Ambazari Lake washed back into the water after rains, nullifying crores spent. Citizens criticize the civic body’s careless handling and demand accountability for this failure.
Nagpur | July 14, 2025: Ambazari Lake, the largest and historically significant lake in Nagpur, continues to battle aquatic plant infestation—despite crores of rupees being spent over the years for their removal. While the Nagpur Municipal Corporation recently claimed success under its aquatic plant liberation campaign, the situation has now taken an ironic turn.
As part of the campaign, large quantities of aquatic plants were removed from the lake. However, instead of being properly disposed of, the plants were simply piled up along the banks. Following continuous rainfall over the past three days, rising water levels have washed this removed debris back into the lake. The water is once again visibly clogged with aquatic plants.
This has left residents disappointed and frustrated, especially children who visited the lake hoping to swim but instead found the water covered with weeds.
Nagpurians are now questioning the logic behind spending crores only to let the removed weeds return to the water. The civic body’s careless handling and temporary solutions have once again exposed the lack of sustainable planning. Instead of being a step toward cleaning the lake, the campaign has become an example of poor execution and misplaced priorities.
