Wardha | August 8, 2025: In a startling revelation, the Local Crime Branch of Wardha police has uncovered a major drug smuggling racket involving the use of a two-month-old baby to dodge law enforcement. A total of five accused — including two women from Mumbai — have been arrested in connection with the operation. The police have seized 400 grams of MD drugs, a pistol, and other materials collectively worth ₹16 lakh, marking it as the largest drug bust in the Nagpur division to date.
According to police sources, the two women from Mumbai had devised a calculated method of smuggling by carrying a newborn along with them during transportation to avoid suspicion. The baby was reportedly being used as a human shield to escape police checks. The women, along with three male accomplices from Wardha, had been under surveillance for the past three months.
The Wardha Local Crime Branch had been tracking the movements of the accused and their network meticulously. Acting on a tip-off, the police team successfully detained all five individuals and uncovered the consignment. The seizure included 400 grams of MD (Mephedrone), a synthetic drug with high street value, and a loaded pistol — indicating a connection between drug trade and illegal arms.
Superintendent of Police Anurag Jain, who is supervising the case, stated that the accused were produced in court on August 7 and have been remanded in police custody until August 11. He also confirmed that a deeper investigation is underway to identify other members linked to the drug syndicate.
This case has not only exposed the rising use of clever disguises in drug trafficking but also highlighted the growing presence of organized drug networks operating between metro cities and regional towns. Authorities are continuing efforts to dismantle the broader chain involved in this high-stakes racket.
