Baner-Pashan Link Road Set for Completion After 11-Year Delay; Order Comes From Bombay High Court
Bombay High Court orders PMC to acquire land and complete Baner-Pashan Link Road, ending 11-year delay and commuter inconvenience.
Anshu Kashid | Pune| April 18, 2025 : After delay of more than a decade, Baner-Pashan Link Road project is finally set to move forward, following a directive from the Bombay High Court. The court has instructed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to acquire the remaining land start the road within six months.
The 1200 metres stretch was proposed as part of PMC’s development plan, with a 50-meter-wide road meant to ease traffic between Baner and Pashan. Although construction began in 2024 and nearly one kilometer of the road was completed, work came to a standstill due to the civic body’s inability to take possession of a crucial 150-meter section of private land.
Despite multiple discussions with the landowner, negotiations failed to reach a resolution. As a result, the road remained incomplete, causing significant inconvenience to residents who were forced to take long detours.
In 2023, the Welfare group of Baner Pashan Link Road filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), urging authorities to complete the long-pending project. Although the court had previously instructed the PMC to acquire the land and complete the road, the directive was not acted upon.
Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice M.S. Karnik has issued order, mandating immediate acquisition and completion. The PMC is expected to spend approx. ₹36 crore on land acquisition to bring the project to existence.
This court order marks a turning point in resolving an issue that has affected thousands of daily commuters in the area for years.
