Pune| 04 August, 2025: In a swift and decisive operation, the Baner Police Station team in Pune apprehended a 32-year-old man, Siddheshwar Digambar Dhere, for illegally possessing a country-made pistol and a live cartridge. The arrest took place on August 1, 2025, near Raviraj Automobile shop in Balewadi’s Vilas Tatyanagar, a bustling neighborhood where residents go about their daily lives. This incident highlights the police’s commitment to tackling illegal firearms, offering a sense of relief to a community concerned about safety amidst rising urban challenges.
Acting on a tip-off received by constables Atul Ingle and Pradip Kharat, the police team, led by Senior Inspector Chandrashekhar Sawant, sprang into action. The intelligence suggested that an individual was carrying an illegal weapon with criminal intent in the Balewadi area. With meticulous planning, the team set up a trap near the specified location, carefully observing the surroundings to avoid alarming residents. Their vigilance paid off when they spotted Dhere, who matched the description provided. Upon questioning, he revealed his identity and led the police to a Mahindra XUV vehicle, where the illicit items were concealed.
The seizure included a country-made pistol valued at ₹1,00,000, a live cartridge worth ₹200, and the vehicle used in the crime, collectively worth ₹6,00,200. The items were promptly confiscated, and Dhere was arrested under Section 3(25) of the Indian Arms Act, with a case registered at Baner Police Station. The operation’s success reflects the dedication of the police team, including Inspector (Crime) Alka Sarg and Assistant Sub-Inspector K.B. Daberav, who worked under the guidance of senior officials like Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil and Deputy Commissioner Somay Munde.
