A Beed depositor, unable to retrieve ₹16 lakh stuck in two cooperative banks, died by suicide at the bank gate. The incident highlights rising despair among rural investors.
Pune/Beed| June 18, 2025: A tragic incident from Beed district has once again brought the spotlight on the plight of depositors struggling with frozen funds in multi-state cooperative banks. Thousands of rural investors—including farmers, laborers, and small traders—have their money stuck in institutions like Gyanradha Multi-State Cooperative Credit Society, leaving them helpless and distressed.
One such depositor, Suresh Atmaram Jadhav from Khalegaon in Gevrai taluka, died by suicide late at night by hanging himself at the gate of Chhatrapati Multi-State Bank. He reportedly had ₹11 lakh stuck in Chhatrapati Multi-State Bank and ₹5 lakh in Gyanradha Multi-State.
Jadhav was desperately trying to withdraw money to arrange his daughter’s upcoming wedding, but despite repeated visits to the bank, he was not given his own funds. Burdened by financial pressure and mental anguish, he took the drastic step, sending shockwaves through the region.
He had gone to the bank premises late at night along with his family. Within a short while, he was found hanging at the gate. This tragic death has deeply shaken the local community and raised serious concerns about the credibility and functioning of multi-state cooperative banks once again.
