Just months after repairs, Bhavani Peth’s roads are riddled with potholes, disrupting daily commutes. Locals demand lasting solutions as the Pune Municipal Corporation faces criticism for poor maintenance.
In Pune’s Bhavani Peth, residents are grappling with frustration as newly repaired roads have deteriorated into hazardous pothole-ridden stretches, a mere four to five months after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) conducted repairs. A massive 15-to-20-foot pothole on the narrow road between Khadkamal Ali Church and Shitaladevi Chowk has become a daily obstacle, making travel treacherous for commuters, especially during peak hours.
The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) staged a symbolic protest, decorating the pothole with rangoli and garlands to highlight the civic body’s failure to maintain the roads. The rapid collapse of freshly asphalted surfaces has sparked outrage, with locals pointing to shoddy workmanship and lack of oversight as key issues. The area’s narrow roads, already strained by heavy traffic, are now a source of significant inconvenience, affecting everyone from schoolchildren to daily wage workers.
Despite significant funds allocated for road repairs, the recurring damage underscores deeper issues in the PMC’s approach to infrastructure maintenance. Residents are calling for urgent, high-quality repairs and greater accountability to ensure safe, reliable roads for their community.
