Big News: Cashless Treatment up to ₹1 Lakh for Accident Victims;Public Health Minister Prakash Abitkar’s Big Step
To strengthen emergency healthcare, Prakash Abitkar has ordered quick reforms — including cashless treatment for victims and expanding the number of hospitals under the state’s health scheme.
Pune, April 19, 2025 – In a move to strengthen emergency medical care, Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Prakash Abitkar has urged the state’s health department to take swift and effective action on priority. Prakash Abitkar has urged the Public Health Department to act swiftly, ensuring that accident victims receive up to ₹1 lakh in cashless treatment at all government hospitals across Maharashtra.
This decision aims to reduce the financial burden on victims and their families during critical situations and ensure timely medical aid.
During a recent review meeting at the State Health Guarantee Society headquarters in Worli, Mumbai, Minister Abitkar outlined the new directives while assessing the progress of the Ayushman Bharat and Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojanas. The session was attended by Chairman of the Ayushman Bharat Mission Maharashtra Committee Dr. Om Prakash Shete, CEO of the State Health Guarantee Society Annasaheb Chavan, Deputy CEO Dr. Dayanand Jagtap, and several other senior members, all of whom contributed to the discussions on improving healthcare delivery in the state.
While reviewing the progress of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, Prakash Abitkar revealed plans to dramatically expand its reach, increasing hospital coverage from 1,792 to 4,180 to better serve citizens—aiming to expand access to affordable healthcare across the state. A selection committee, headed by the District Collector, has already been appointed for this purpose. The Minister stressed the importance of a transparent selection process and warned that irregularities will not be tolerated.
In another key development, a study committee has been established to evaluate the inclusion of costly procedures such as organ transplants, improvements to the treatment index, and the extension of the scheme to cover primary healthcare. The committee has been given a one-month target date to submit its report. Furthermore, hospitals have been granted a one-month extension from March for ongoing implementation-related tasks. Abitkar also revealed that a total of ₹1,300 crore has already been disbursed under the health schemes and reiterated that all efforts must be made to implement the programs efficiently, responsibly, and without corruption
