Patna | June 9, 2025: In a shocking incident, a retired nurse and her daughter were shot dead by bike-borne criminals in Alamganj’s New Arfabad Colony in Patna City. The woman’s husband sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment.
The brazen daylight attack has sparked panic in the area. Police have recovered bullet shells from the scene and launched a probe, though the motive behind the killings remains unclear.
Attack in Broad Daylight
According to police reports, unidentified assailants barged into the family’s home and opened indiscriminate fire. Eyewitnesses said chaos ensued in the locality as gunshots rang out.
Retired nurse Mahalakshmi Devi, who had served at NMCH and retired a year ago, was killed along with her daughter Santhali Kumari, who was pursuing air hostess training in Pune. The father, critically wounded, was rushed to hospital.
Investigation Underway
Upon receiving information, Alamganj police station officers and City SP Akhilesh Jha arrived at the scene to supervise the investigation. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations and questioning several individuals.
Preliminary suspicions point toward a possible old rivalry, but police have not confirmed any motive yet. “We are investigating all angles. It is too early to comment on the cause of the attack,” said a police official.
Crime Wave Raises Concerns
The attack adds to a string of recent firing incidents in Patna, raising concerns about rising crime in the city. Despite the presence of senior state officials in the capital, criminals continue to strike with apparent impunity.
Residents are demanding stronger law enforcement and greater police presence to curb the growing lawlessness.
