Pune | June 21: A major air accident was narrowly averted after an Air India flight from Delhi to Pune suffered a bird hit midair on Friday. Fortunately, the plane landed safely at Pune Airport, but the return flight to Delhi has been cancelled as a precautionary measure.
According to Air India officials, the incident was only discovered after the plane landed in Pune, when signs of a bird strike were observed. The aircraft is currently under inspection by the airline’s engineering team, who are thoroughly examining it for possible damage before it’s cleared for further operations.
To ensure passenger safety, Air India cancelled the return flight from Pune to Delhi. The airline has also confirmed that alternative travel arrangements are being made for stranded passengers, including rescheduling, refunds, and accommodation where necessary.
This incident comes close on the heels of a tragic air crash in Ahmedabad, where a plane headed to London crashed into a Medical College building shortly after takeoff, leading to the deaths of hundreds of passengers. Only one passenger survived that crash, and investigations into that accident are ongoing, with many shocking revelations still emerging.
Friday’s Pune-Delhi incident, though less severe, serves as a critical reminder of the vulnerabilities air travel still faces, especially from bird strikes—a recurring issue at Indian airports.
