Pune| May 28, 2025 : In the wake of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, security across major Indian cities has been tightened, including Mumbai. On Tuesday, a bomb threat call targeting a flight at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport sent security agencies into overdrive.
The threat call was received around 9 AM at the Mumbai Police Control Room, warning that a bomb would go off at the airport by 2 PM. Immediately, security agencies rushed to the spot and conducted thorough checks. However, no suspicious items were found on the aircraft.
Using mobile data and technical surveillance, police tracked the call to a suspect in Andheri. The man, identified as Manjit Kumar Gautam, a garment factory worker, was located through SIM card details and detained by the MIDC police team.
He was interrogated and taken to Azad Maidan Police Station, where a non-cognizable offense was documented.
Police inquiries uncovered that Gautam initiated the false call as a result of emotional turmoil following a domestic dispute with his spouse.
The case underscores how a personal conflict led to a major security alert and full-scale activation of airport safety protocols.
Authorities have noted a rise in hoax calls targeting Mumbai Airport in recent months, putting strain on emergency response systems.
