A bridge collapse in Ulhasnagar’s Ganesh Nagar due to heavy rain cut off access to 500+ homes. A woman narrowly escaped, and residents have launched protests demanding urgent reconstruction.
Ulhasnagar | June 16, 2025: Heavy rains in Ulhasnagar led to the collapse of an old bridge over a drain in Ganesh Nagar (Camp No. 5) on Sunday evening, cutting off access to over 500 homes. In a miraculous turn, a young woman narrowly escaped as the bridge gave way — an incident that was captured on nearby CCTV cameras and has since gone viral on local platforms.
The bridge, which connected several residential clusters, had long been in a dilapidated condition. Locals had repeatedly appealed to the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation for its repair or reconstruction. Despite multiple protests, the demands were consistently ignored — a neglect that has now turned into full-blown outrage.

After the collapse, residents staged a symbolic protest, some sitting at the site in tears, holding placards and demanding swift action. They accused the administration of risking lives by not addressing long-standing warnings about the bridge’s condition.
“This isn’t just about infrastructure. It’s about our safety and survival,” said one of the protestors. Many residents are now completely isolated, with no alternate route to reach the main road.

As the city continues to face relentless rainfall, fears grow that other aging structures may be at risk too. Locals are now urging the administration to act urgently before another disaster strikes.
