The Maharashtra Health Department’s Joint Committee report has highlighted severe lapses by Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital, Pune, in the tragic death of pregnant woman Tanisha Bhise. The hospital, a registered charitable institution, reportedly failed to follow mandatory charity hospital norms.
The report states that emergency medical care and life-saving measures should have been provided immediately, regardless of payment. Instead, according to the deceased’s family, the hospital allegedly demanded a deposit of Rs 10–20 lakh—violating charity hospital regulations. It also noted that the patient was left in a critical condition for hours without appropriate medical attention.
Furthermore, the hospital reportedly did not advise or facilitate timely transfer to a public hospital, nor did it inform the family about government schemes applicable to charitable hospitals. The failure to stabilize the patient before discharge was flagged as a serious violation.
The report has been submitted to the Charity Commissioner’s Office in Pune for further action. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured appropriate action if the hospital is found guilty.
