Chirag Paswan announced contesting all 243 Bihar seats, stirring political buzz. Though still in NDA, his statement pressures allies for more seats. He pledged development, jobs, and protection of reservation.

As Bihar gears up for its assembly elections in September-October, political tensions are running high—especially after a bold announcement from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief and Union Minister Chirag Paswan. Speaking at a public rally in Chhapra on Sunday, Paswan declared that his party will contest all 243 assembly seats in Bihar.

The statement initially caused a stir in political circles, raising questions about the internal dynamics of the NDA alliance, of which Paswan’s party is a constituent. However, Chirag later clarified that his announcement does not imply a split from the NDA but is a part of his political strategy to assert his position within the alliance and secure a larger seat share during negotiations.

Addressing the crowd, Paswan remarked, “Every time I come to Bihar, I’m asked how many seats I will contest. Today, I want to say—I will contest from all 243 seats. Not for power, but for the people, for my brothers and sisters, for the future of Bihar.”

Though his clarification reiterated commitment to NDA, the political undertone of his statement was clear. Paswan is reportedly using this stance as a pressure tactic to increase his bargaining power in the ongoing seat-sharing talks with BJP and other allies.

Political observers believe that this calculated suspense is part of Chirag’s broader campaign to position himself as a strong, youth-driven leader in the state. His message emphasized development, employment, and social justice, with a heavy appeal to the youth and unemployed.

Chirag also took a jab at the opposition, claiming that those now preaching development are the same forces responsible for Bihar’s decline in the 1990s. “I want a Bihar where our youth don’t have to migrate for jobs. Jobs should be available in their own villages, towns, and districts,” he asserted.

On the sensitive issue of reservation, Chirag firmly stated, “A lie is being spread that reservation will end. But as long as I live, no one can touch reservation. I am the son of Ram Vilas Paswan.”

Despite his reassurance about remaining in the NDA, Chirag’s strong words have left many wondering how seat-sharing within the alliance will unfold in the coming days.
