
City Rattled by Spike in Jewellery Thefts; Burglaries Reported Across Camp, Hadapsar, and Baner
Jewellery thefts have spiked in Pune’s Camp, Hadapsar, and Baner areas. Multiple homes were targeted; while valuables were stolen in some, others faced break-in attempts. Investigations are ongoing.
Pune, April 29, 2025: Over the past few days, the city has witnessed a troubling rise in house break-ins, mostly involving thefts of gold and silver ornaments. Several such incidents have been reported across different police stations.
In the Camp area’s Dr. Saldanha Street, an unknown thief broke into a residential society on April 14 around 2 am. The complainant, Gosia Inayat Khan, reported at Lashkar Police Station that valuables worth ₹50,000 in gold and silver were stolen. Sub-Inspector Tarte is handling the investigation.
In another incident in Hadapsar, Deepak Vishwambhar Suryavanshi, who resides in a residential complex in Manjari, filed a complaint after a woman entered his house through an open door on April 24, between 12 noon and 12:30 pm. She allegedly stole jewellery worth ₹45,000 from an cupboard before fleeing. Constable Tengle is leading the inquiry.
Meanwhile, in Baner, a case of attempted burglary was reported by Mimoh Pradeep Patil. His rented flat in Shivpriya Apartments had been locked while the tenant was away. Between October 2024 and April 25, 2025, an unknown person broke the door lock in an attempt to steal. Fortunately, no belongings were taken. Constable Aher is investigating.
