CM, in his view on Thursday stated the final verdict by Supreme Court on Zudpi forest classification has put light on the negatively affected development of Vidarbha and CM asserted that now is the time for residents of Vidarbha to embrace the fostering development and growth. In all he also expressed deep gratitude for the judgement by the Apex Court.
Pune | May 23, 2025: Chief Minister Devendra emphasised his remarks on the Apex Court’s key decision on the Zudpi Forest. He further remarked that this ruling would facilitate the growth and advancement of the Vidarbha Region in Maharashtra. His remarks appreciated the verdict by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India.
“This is truly a landmark and historic ruling, and I sincerely thank the Chief Justice. The Supreme Court’s order will provide a substantial impetus for the development of Vidarbha, which has been hindered for several decades due to the classification of Zudpi jungle as reserved forest. While the Supreme Court’s ruling opens the door for development, it also imposes certain conditions that are essential to maintain a proper balance between development and environmental preservation,” Fadnavis stated.
Emphasizing the significance of the Supreme Court’s decision, Fadnavis noted, “For the past 45 years, leaders from various political parties in the Vidarbha region have been advocating for this cause. This finally marks the conclusion of the struggle and finally the residents of Vidarbha can now have a sigh of relief. All inhibited development will soon accelerate.
The revenue records had delineated and categorized the Zudpi Jungle under the Forest Conservation Act. In 1960, when Maharashtra was formed, the region of Vidarbha was classified under Central India (CP & Berar). Subsequently, the forest act was introduced by the central government, and Madhya Pradesh rectified its records; however, Maharashtra continued to classify Zudpi jungle as forest land based on its revenue records, as noted by Fadnavis.
“During my initial term as Chief Minister (2014-2019), I established a committee whose findings were submitted to the Supreme Court. Nearly all the recommendations from the CEC have been accepted by the apex court,” stated CM Devendra Fadnavis.
