A Bhandup couple beat a toddler under the guise of exorcism and fled. Police arrested them dramatically and seized witchcraft material. They had planned to start an orphanage, raising alarm.
Mumbai | June 28, 2025 : A horrifying incident has surfaced from Mumbai’s Bhandup area, where a two-and-a-half-year-old child was brutally beaten with a cane under the pretense of an exorcism ritual. What’s even more disturbing is that the accused couple allegedly continued their occult practices inside the police station after being arrested.
The Bhandup Police, acting on a complaint, arrested Vaibhav Kokare and Harshada Gurav Kokare in a dramatic, movie-style operation. The duo, long-time partners who recently tied the knot after 14 years of live-in, were found hiding in Ghansoli after fleeing their Jungle Mangal residence in Bhandup.
Police traced their location via phone tracking and used a clever ruse—calling them under the pretext of checking vehicle documents—to trap and arrest them. A rickshaw parked nearby helped the police confirm their presence.
Investigators recovered seven books on black magic, coconuts, and other items used in Aghori rituals from the suspects. Shockingly, the couple was reportedly planning to open a home for orphans, raising further concern over their intentions.
Harshada, it has emerged, was earlier employed as a contractor with the Thane Zilla Parishad. Authorities are now digging deeper into the couple’s background and intent, as the child abuse case has left the community shocked.
