Pune,June,30 2025– In a distressing incident that has shaken the community, a 70-year-old woman from Maharashtra, visiting Pahalgam with her family, was allegedly sexually assaulted in her hotel room in April. The accused, Zubair Ahmad Bhat from Ganeshbal, Pahalgam, reportedly entered her room, committed the heinous act, and fled, leaving the elderly widow traumatized and physically injured. The case, which remained under wraps until the accused’s bail plea brought it to light, occurred just before the tragic Pahalgam massacre on April 22.

The Principal Sessions Court in Anantnag, presided over by Judge Tahir Khurshid Raina, rejected the bail application, citing the severity of the crime and its profound impact on the victim and society. The elderly woman, described as deeply distressed, is receiving counseling to cope with the trauma. Police have taken the accused into custody and are conducting a thorough investigation to ensure justice.
