Pune | May 23, 2025: Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has directed the immediate transfer of thirty Duty Officers (DOs), in a bold action meant to strengthen discipline inside the traffic department. Following many complaints against these officials, the ruling was carried out under directives given on Wednesday by Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Manoj Patil.
The Duty Officers, each assigned to one of the city’s 30 traffic units, play a crucial administrative role—handling duty rosters, sanctioning leaves, and assigning vehicles like tempos and cranes for operations. However, repeated reports of misuse of authority and internal dissatisfaction prompted the leadership to act decisively.
This shake-up has caused a stir within the police ranks. While some see it as an overdue correction, others view it as a strong signal from the top brass that internal accountability will no longer be ignored. Many personnel in the traffic department, long frustrated by what they described as the unchecked behavior of certain DOs, have welcomed the transfers as a positive and necessary reform.
Sources suggest that the police commissioner is expected to monitor the new appointments closely, and further restructuring is likely if any fresh complaints emerge.
