Ekta Kapoor clarifies she cut ties with banned OTT platform ALTT in 2021. As Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi returns, her statement ignites debate on content responsibility and media ethics.
Mumbai | July 26, 2025 — TV czarina Ekta Kapoor is once again in the spotlight as she gears up to revive her iconic show Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi with a brand-new season. However, just before the much-awaited relaunch, Ekta Kapoor has issued a strong and clarifying statement regarding the recent government ban on several OTT platforms, including ALTT.
The Indian government recently banned multiple OTT platforms such as Allt, Ullu App, Desiflix, and Big Shots, accusing them of streaming pornographic content. Among these, ALTT — formerly associated with Ekta Kapoor’s production house — was also named, triggering public criticism and media speculation.
Reacting swiftly to the controversy, Ekta Kapoor posted an official statement on her Instagram account, making it clear that neither she nor her mother, Shobha Kapoor, has any association with ALTT since June 2021. She emphasized that any ongoing allegations linking her to the banned platform are “completely false” and urged the media to verify facts before publishing.
“There is a news being spread in the media that ALTT has been banned. However, Miss Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor… have no direct or indirect connection with ALTT. We separated from this company in June 2021,” the statement read.
This clarification comes days after Ekta had publicly defended the bold content on ALTT during an interview, making the current statement even more significant and sparking fresh debate on responsibility in digital entertainment.
Meanwhile, excitement builds around the return of Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, promising a nostalgic yet contemporary take for today’s audience.
