A Pune-based engineer was booked for rape and forced abortion of his long-time partner under the pretext of marriage. Hinjewadi Police have registered a case; investigation is in progress.
Pune | July 11, 2025 – A deeply disturbing case has emerged from Hinjewadi, Pune’s bustling IT hub, where a 28-year-old engineer has been booked for rape and forced abortion of a woman he had been in a relationship with since 2018. The incident has not only shocked police officials but has once again triggered serious questions about women’s safety in urban spaces.
The accused has been identified as Adarsh Valmik Meshram, an engineer employed at a private company in Hinjewadi. He allegedly exploited the victim under the pretext of marriage, maintaining a sexual relationship with her for years.

The incident came to light after the woman was allegedly given abortion-inducing drugs mixed in rabdi (a sweet dish) on July 3, without her knowledge. She soon fell ill and was admitted to a hospital, where the truth unraveled. According to the FIR, the act was committed after she became pregnant — a pregnancy the accused refused to take responsibility for.
The victim, originally from Yavatmal, had come to Pune on June 23 to celebrate Adarsh’s birthday. But what she discovered on his phone shocked her — chats and photos with other women, suggesting multiple affairs. Her suspicions were confirmed after meeting one of Adarsh’s ex-girlfriends, who also revealed a pattern of deception.
In her detailed complaint, the woman alleged that Adarsh had previously assaulted her in a hotel in 2024, and despite her resistance, he used force. He repeatedly refused to marry her, even after knowing about her pregnancy.
Based on her complaint, the Hinjewadi Police have booked Adarsh Meshram under:
- Section 376 (Rape)
- Section 313 (Causing miscarriage without woman’s consent)
- and other applicable sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police confirmed that investigation is ongoing, and appropriate action will be taken based on medical and digital evidence.
The case has caused outrage across the city, with citizens and rights activists demanding strict punishment and faster legal procedures. It also highlights the urgent need for awareness around consent, coercion, and the legal protections available to women.
