A young engineer was brutally murdered with a knife during a community meeting over an extramarital affair in Belgaum’s Khanapur. The accused are absconding; police have launched a full investigation.
Khanapur (Belgaum) | August 4, 2025: A horrifying murder unfolded in broad daylight at the Maruti Temple in Gandhinagar on Sunday, when a young engineer was brutally stabbed to death during a heated village meeting called to resolve a dispute stemming from an extramarital affair. The incident has sent shockwaves through the Khanapur-Belgaum region and triggered tensions in the area.
The deceased has been identified as Suresh alias Ramesh Timana Bandivadder (32), a resident of Gandhinagar 3rd Cross. The attack took place around 4:30 p.m. during a mediation gathering aimed at resolving a family conflict.
Background: Eloped Couple Returns, Sparks Confrontation
According to police, Suresh’s wife, Sneha, had allegedly run away with Yashwant alias Anil Yallappa Bandivadder (25), a married man, just three to four days prior. Suresh had registered a missing complaint with the police on Saturday (August 2). On Sunday morning, the couple returned voluntarily, prompting a community meeting with local elders (panch) to mediate and resolve the issue.
The meeting took place at the Maruti temple on the Khanapur-Belgaum highway, with family members from both sides present. As emotions ran high, Suresh reportedly questioned Yashwant and demanded answers for his wife’s betrayal, which led to a heated altercation.
Murder in Broad Daylight
In the midst of the argument, Yashwant’s father, Yallappa Shantaram Bandivadder (60), allegedly lost control and attacked Suresh with a knife. He stabbed him multiple times in the neck and stomach. The assault was so savage that Suresh’s intestines were exposed, and he collapsed at the scene. Despite attempts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries immediately.
Following the murder, Khanapur Police registered a case under IPC Section 302 against Yallappa, Yashwant, and Savitri Yallappa Bandivadder (55). All three are reportedly absconding. The police have launched a manhunt and are investigating the matter further.
Tension Grips Gandhinagar
The gruesome nature of the attack has created a tense atmosphere in the Gandhinagar area, with residents expressing shock over the violence that erupted from what was supposed to be a peaceful community intervention. Security has been tightened in the area to prevent any further flare-ups.
