Hinjawadi, 28th March 2025: A fire at a open land near Maan (Taluka Mulshi) led to a major power outage after MahaTransco’s 220 KV extra-high-voltage (EHV) tower line between Pirangut and Hinjawadi tripped twice on Friday evening. The incident affected 66,000 consumers, including over 200 IT industries in Hinjawadi, as well as residential and commercial users in Wakad, Marunji, Kasarsai, and surrounding areas.
The first power failure occurred at 5:29 PM, leading to a blackout for 46 minutes before power was restored at 6:15 PM. However, the tower line tripped again at around 7 PM, causing another outage.
MahaTransco officials attributed the failure to grass fires beneath the high-voltage tower line, which disrupted electricity transmission and resulted in a 152 MW power deficit across MESDCL’s Pimpri and Mulshi divisions. Senior engineers were deployed immediately to resolve the issue and restore supply.
MahaTransco officials have assured that efforts are being made on a priority basis to stabilize the power grid and prevent further disruptions. The incident highlights the vulnerability of critical infrastructure to external factors such as field fires.
