FTII and Maharashtra government have partnered to launch short-term film and media courses across four cities, providing skill-based education in acting, direction, and production for Maharashtra’s aspiring youth.

Pune | 22 July, 2025: A landmark collaboration between Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) and the Maharashtra Film, Theatre and Cultural Development Corporation (MFC) has opened new doors for students in Maharashtra aspiring for careers in the entertainment industry. The two prestigious institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday, setting the stage for world-class, skill-based education in film, television, theatre, and digital media within the state.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar, and FTII Chairman and actor R. Madhavan. Fadnavis hailed the agreement as a “golden opportunity” for young talent from the state, stating that the collaboration will build a strong ecosystem by combining FTII’s expertise with Maharashtra’s cinematic infrastructure.

As part of the initiative, short-term and professional training programs will be launched at four prominent locations:

  1. Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari (Mumbai)
  2. ND Studio (Karjat)
  3. P. L. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy (Pune)
  4. Kolhapur Chitranagari

These centres will offer practical and intensive training in fields such as acting, direction, cinematography, sound design, scriptwriting, and film production. Courses will be led by FTII’s experienced faculty alongside renowned professionals from the film industry.

Speaking on the occasion, R. Madhavan expressed pride in the initiative, saying, “FTII is globally respected. Now, Maharashtra’s youth will have access to the same standard of training—right at home.”

Over the decades, FTII has produced legendary artists like Rajkumar Hirani, Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, and Jaya Bachchan. With this new partnership, a fresh generation of skilled storytellers and technicians from Maharashtra could be next in line.
