Pune | May 15, 2025: Paying tribute to the valiant warrior and profound scholar Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Maharashtra’s Industries Minister Uday Samant announced that a grand memorial will be constructed at Purandar Fort to honor his legacy. Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, who authored four scholarly works by the age of fourteen and fought every recorded battle of his time with unmatched courage, will serve as a source of inspiration for future generations, the Minister said.
The announcement came during a solemn ceremony held at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Hall in Purandar Fort, where Uday Samant, Cultural Affairs and IT Minister Ashish Shelar, and MLA Vijay Shivtare offered floral tributes and performed a ceremonial puja at the statue of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The event was organized by Purandar Pratishthan, Panchayat Samiti Purandar, and Zilla Parishad Pune as part of a larger initiative to commemorate the historic cradle linked to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.
During the event, Uday Samant emphasized the need for a fitting monument that would reflect Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s brilliance, valor, and sacrifice. He noted that such a memorial at Purandar Fort would not only honor his memory but also educate and inspire future generations about his remarkable life.
In a gesture recognizing community service, Kailash Bagdan was presented with the Environmental Service Award, while the Purandar Social Foundation and the Srinath Mhaskoba Devasthan Trust were honored with the Special Work Gaurav Award. The awards were conferred in recognition of exceptional efforts in social and environmental fields.
MLA Vijay Shivtare also spoke to the assembly and promised to aggressively pursue the memorial idea, so highlighting the historical significance of Purandar Fort in the Maratha legacy.
The event began with an introduction by Tehsildar Vikram Rajput, while Group Development Officer Pankaj Shelke concluded the ceremony by offering a vote of thanks. Several dignitaries including Dr. Digambar Dungade, Ishwar Bagmar, Nana Saste, Rahul Gaikwad, Yogesh Khenat, Raviraj Shinde, Umesh Khambe, Yogesh Deshmukh, Amol Jagtap, Saket Jagtap, and Maya Takavale graced the occasion.
