Pune 7 june 2025 : In a tragic incident, 46-year-old police constable Sachin Harishchandra Surve, attached to the Khadak police station, was found dead at his home in the Shivajinagar police colony. Officials suspect he had taken his own life by hanging himself, and it was a sad day for the Pune City police department and people living in the area. Surve, who had his wife and daughter with him, was alone at home at the time of the incident because his family members were visiting their village.
The police in Shivajinagar responded quickly, rushing to the spot and taking Surve’s body to Sassoon Hospital for a post-mortem. An accidental death case has been filed, and investigations are on to ascertain the reasons behind this deadly act, which are unknown at present. The police are working hard to probe the circumstances that led to Surve’s premature death.
This event is preceded by another tragic loss earlier this year, when a 40-year-old police naik Nana Handal of Bundgarden police station was discovered dead in comparable circumstances at the Shivajinagar police quarters during February 2025. Suspected to have committed suicide, Handal’s death had already darkened the lives of the police family, and Surve’s death has compounded the sense of sorrow and trepidation.
The sequential tragedies have shaken the close-knit police ranks and the local community, raising questions over the mental health and well-being of police officers. Through ongoing investigations, the attention is still on the causes of these events, with authorities determined to give cause and offer support following this devastating loss.
