A 17-year-old girl narrowly escaped assault while her family was robbed at knifepoint on the Pune-Solapur Highway near Swami Chincholi. Police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the two assailants who fled the scene.
In a chilling incident , a family of seven traveling on the Pune-Solapur National Highway faced a terrifying ordeal near Swami Chincholi village in Daund taluka. Around 4:15 a.m., their Eco van, carrying a 70-year-old driver, three women, two 17-year-old boys, and a 17-year-old girl, stopped for a tea break. As the driver stepped out, two men on a numberless motorcycle approached, brandishing a knife. They robbed the women of their gold jewelry and dragged the teenage girl aside, attempting to assault her. Her resistance and a hurried accomplice prompted the attackers to flee, leaving the family shaken.
The group, en route to Pandharpur for a religious visit, immediately alerted authorities via the 112 helpline. Pune Rural Police, led by Additional Superintendent Ganesh Birajdar, Deputy Superintendent Bapurao Dadas, and Inspector Gopal Pawar, rushed to the scene. A case has been registered at Daund Police Station under charges of robbery, attempted sexual assault, and provisions of the POCSO Act and Arms Act. Multiple teams, leveraging CCTV footage and technical analysis, are working to track the culprits, with Superintendent Sandeep Singh Gill assuring swift action.

The incident has heightened safety concerns along the highway, a vital route for pilgrims and commuters. Local residents are urging increased police patrolling in Swami Chincholi, where similar crimes have occurred. The family’s courage in reporting the crime has sparked hope for justice, as authorities intensify their manhunt to ensure such horrors are not repeated.
