Pune | 18 July, 2025: For thousands of IT professionals and residents in Hinjawadi, the daily grind of navigating choked roads is finally seeing relief. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has launched a robust anti-encroachment drive, clearing 166 illegal structures in just 15 days, as reported on July 22, 2025. Focusing on critical bottlenecks like Laxmi Chowk, Wipro Circle, Maan Road, and Marunji, this effort is transforming Pune’s bustling IT hub into a more navigable space. The initiative brings hope to commuters who have long endured traffic snarls, offering smoother journeys and safer roads.

Hinjawadi, home to Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park, sees over five lakh daily commuters, many stuck in gridlock due to unauthorized constructions and hoardings. These encroachments not only clogged roads but also blocked natural drainage systems, worsening flooding during monsoons. The PMRDA’s campaign, led by Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase, targeted 19 illegal hoardings and other structures, with many encroachers voluntarily dismantling their setups after receiving notices. Key areas like Shivaji Chowk to Wakad Road and Phase 1 Road are now under survey for further action, ensuring a comprehensive cleanup.

This drive is more than just clearing physical obstacles; it’s about restoring quality of life for Hinjawadi’s residents and workers. Families no longer need to dread long commutes, and IT employees can reach their offices without the stress of unpredictable delays. The operation, backed by coordinated efforts with the Pimpri Chinchwad Police and Public Works Department, reflects a commitment to urban mobility. A 300-meter stretch near Marunji-Wipro Circle is also under construction, set to open within weeks, further easing traffic flow to Laxmi Chowk.

The PMRDA’s proactive stance follows years of resident complaints about poor road conditions and traffic chaos, exacerbated by metro construction and monsoon potholes. With fortnightly reviews mandated by the Divisional Commissioner and a dedicated WhatsApp group for real-time grievance redressal, the authorities are ensuring accountability. Plans to upgrade the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line 3 route to a cement-concrete road signal long-term improvements, promising a more resilient infrastructure.

For Hinjawadi’s community, this is a step toward reclaiming their roads. School buses, cabs, and delivery vehicles can now operate more reliably, reducing daily frustrations. The PMRDA’s swift action, coupled with ongoing surveys, offers a brighter, less congested future for Pune’s IT heartland, where smoother commutes mean more time for work, family, and life.
