Bihar| July 08 2025: In a horrifying and deeply disturbing incident from Purnia district in Bihar, five members of the same family were brutally murdered and burned alive by villagers on the suspicion of practicing witchcraft. The gruesome incident took place in Tetagama village under the Muffasil police station limits.
The victims—Babulal Urao, his wife Sita Deva, their son Manjit Urao, daughter-in-law Rani Devi, and elderly mother Mo Kato—were first tied up, severely beaten, and then set on fire in front of a crowd of villagers. According to reports, the attack was sparked by the death of Ramdev Urao’s son, who had fallen ill. After his passing, his family claimed that Babulal’s wife was a “witch” and accused the family of killing him using black magic.

A village panchayat was reportedly held late on Sunday night, where nearly 300 people from three neighboring villages were present. By 1 am, the accused family was dragged 50 feet from their home, tied with ropes, and beaten. In a shocking act of mob violence, they were then burned alive as bystanders watched without intervening.

Lalit Kumar, the only survivor, recounted the horror and confirmed that his entire family was attacked over baseless witchcraft accusations. One accused, Nakul Kumar, has been arrested for inciting the mob and taking part in the killings. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and fear has gripped the region as many villagers have fled their homes.
The police are under pressure to identify and arrest all those involved in this horrifying act of mob justice.
