Under a big operation run by the State Excise Department, enormous amounts of foreign liquor unlawfully imported into the nation were stopped on the Old Pune-Mumbai Highway close to Vallabhnagar, Pimpri, in front of the bus station. Under the guidance of State Excise Department Commissioner Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, along with Joint Commissioner (Enforcement and Vigilance) P.P. Surve, Divisional Deputy Commissioner (Pune Division) Sagar Dhomkar, Superintendent (State Excise, Pune) Charan Singh Rajput, and Deputy Superintendent (Pimpri Chinchwad) Sujit Patil. While under regular checking by the team, a six-wheeler truck of EICHER with registration number MH-15-JC-1388 was detained and checked. On checking, the team found a huge consignment of Royal Blue Whiskey—180 ml bottles that were produced in Goa and labeled for sale only inside the state. As many as 305 boxes were found in the truck.
The seized liquor, not permitted for sale in Maharashtra, was valued at ₹24,88,800. The vehicle itself is worth ₹27,40,000, bringing the total seizure value to ₹52,28,800.
The driver of the said vehicle, Vishal Suklal Varade (31) of Nashera Bagh, Kurtha, Bhusawal, Jalgaon, Maharashtra, has been arrested. The raid was conducted by Inspector Sanjay K. Kolhe, Sub-Inspector Abhay A. Aute, B.G. Redekar, Ganesh Pathare, and staff Pramod Palave, Vijay Ghandure, Amol Kamble, and woman officer Priya Chandanshive. Sub-Inspector Abhay A. Aute is investigating the case.
Officials highlighted that smuggling of liquor from other states causes a significant loss to Maharashtra’s government revenue. The department assured that similar enforcement actions will continue in the future. Charan Singh Rajput, Superintendent, also urged the public to report any information about illegal liquor trade to the State Excise Department, Pune, on 020-2612-7321.
