Incessant Rain Brings Pune to a Standstill—Roads Flooded, Traffic Crawls!
Pune, 4th April 2025:

Due to recent incessant rainfall in Pune, water has accumulated in low-lying areas on roads, leading to waterlogging in Pune. The flow of water on the streets has also slowed down traffic movement. During the last two days, major junctions witnessed severe traffic congestion in Pune, leaving commuters stranded in both heavy rain in Pune and gridlock. Specific areas of the city have experienced good rainfall over the past two days. This has resulted in rainwater flowing over most roads for the first time this season, while several areas remain waterlogged.
During peak hours—8 to 10 AM and 5 to 8 PM—traffic congestion was at its worst. Key roads such as Bajirao Road, Shivaji Road, Jangli Maharaj Road, Tilak Road, Karve Road, Solapur Road, and Nagar Road experienced heavy traffic jams.
Water Released from Khadakwasla Dam
Meanwhile, since Monday morning, water was being released from Khadakwasla Dam, with the discharge increasing in the afternoon. This led to a rise in water levels in the Mutha riverbed. As water flowed parallel to the Baba Bhide Bridge in Deccan, traffic was halted on the bridge. Additionally, routes via Rajput Vasahat to Mhatre Bridge, Erandwane, and the road towards Shanivarwada were closed, causing congestion on nearby roads. Vehicles diverted through Khandujibaba Chowk onto Karve Road led to long queues from Khandujibaba Chowk to Jangli Maharaj Road. Evening traffic also saw jams in internal roads of Sadashiv Peth, Narayan Peth, and other areas.
33 Incidents of Tree Collapse
In the last 12 hours, 33 incidents of tree collapses were reported in Pune across various parts of the city. Fortunately, no casualties or major damages were reported. The affected areas include Kothrud, Karve Road, Erandwane, Nal Stop, Sahakarnagar, Parvati, Shukrawar Peth, Pune Station, Market Yard, Katraj-Kondhwa Road, Sukhsagarnagar, Yerawada, Dhanori, Jail Road, Hadapsar, and Fatimanagar.
