Elevator collapses from 10th to 9th floor in Jalgaon Municipal Corporation building; two trapped individuals escape unharmed. Incident sparks concern over safety standards and infrastructure maintenance in civic offices.
Jalgaon | June 25, 2025 – A major safety lapse has come to light in the heart of Jalgaon city. An elevator in the 17-storey Jalgaon Municipal Corporation building suddenly collapsed, causing panic and raising serious questions about the maintenance of civic infrastructure.
According to preliminary information, the lift crashed from the 10th to the 9th floor with a loud thud, briefly shaking the structure of the building itself. The unexpected jolt left employees and visitors in shock.
At the time of the incident, two people were trapped inside the elevator. Fortunately, they managed to break open the lift doors from inside and escape without any major injuries. Eyewitnesses and staff on site said that if there had been even a slight delay, the consequences could have been tragic.
The incident has reignited debate around basic safety protocols in government buildings, especially one that houses senior officials and is regularly visited by citizens.
While no injuries have been officially reported, questions are being raised over routine lift inspections and the condition of aging infrastructure in civic buildings. An internal inquiry is expected to be initiated by the Municipal Corporation.
Citizens and employees alike are now demanding immediate safety audits of all government buildings in Jalgaon, starting with the Municipal headquarters.
