Mohammad Kaif has predicted Jasprit Bumrah’s potential retirement from Test cricket, citing fitness issues and declining pace during the Manchester Test. Kaif says Bumrah may soon opt out voluntarily.

Mumbai | 27 July, 2025: India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, hailed as the country’s top bowler across formats, may soon bid farewell to Test cricket, according to former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif. Bumrah, currently playing the Manchester Test against England, has not shown his usual intensity or wicket-taking edge — sparking speculation about his long-term fitness and form.

Kaif, speaking on a cricket show, stated, “Bumrah is struggling with injury. His pace has dropped, and his body isn’t supporting him like before. I believe he may soon retire from Tests.”

He also emphasized Bumrah’s character, saying he is a “self-respecting player” who would step away on his own if he feels unable to contribute fully. The Manchester Test saw wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel take a tricky catch off Bumrah’s bowling, which Kaif interpreted as a sign of the pacer’s reduced sharpness and declining form.

While Bumrah has often sat out Test matches to manage his workload, concerns are rising among fans as he is now 31. His retirement from Tests could mark a strategic shift to limited-overs formats, where India will continue to rely heavily on his experience.

The cricketing fraternity and millions of fans await further clarity, hoping that Bumrah remains a part of the red-ball format for as long as possible.
