Kanpur | July 11, 2025 – What began as a hopeful new chapter in a young woman’s life turned into a disturbing tale of deceit, harassment, and violence — all hidden behind the veil of marriage.
A woman from Rawatpur, Kanpur, who tied the knot with a man from Unnao in March 2024, experienced an unimaginable shock on her wedding night. Eager to begin a new life, she waited for her groom. But instead of intimacy and affection, she was met with rejection and anger — a behavior that left her alarmed.
As she tried to hold his hand, the groom pulled away and lashed out. That moment marked the start of a horrifying realization — her husband was impotent, a fact she was never told.
When she confided in her elder brother-in-law the next morning, her concerns were laughed off. But what followed was worse — a series of mental and physical torture by her in-laws. The woman alleged that her in-laws were fully aware of her husband’s condition and had married her only for dowry.
As her ordeal deepened, her brother-in-law allegedly began molesting her, taking advantage of her silence and vulnerability. When she protested, she was beaten.
In a terrifying escalation, she was once called by her in-laws under the pretense of a discussion — but was nearly hanged to death, she claims, in an attempt to silence her forever.
On filing a complaint, the Kanpur police registered a case against the husband, brother-in-law, and a relative under relevant sections of assault, molestation, and dowry-related offenses. Authorities confirmed that a detailed investigation is underway, and strict action will follow based on evidence.
