07 June,2025: Kolhapur district witnessed a shocking case of betrayal and violence in Kerle village, where a young man, Mahendra Kumbhar, was murdered by his childhood friend in a tragic love triangle.
Mahendra and the accused, a minor, had shared a deep friendship since their first standard and recently passed their Class XII exams together. However, both friends were involved emotionally with the same girl — a situation that eventually turned fatal.
Pushed to death over unrequited love
The minor, enraged by Mahendra’s bond with the girl and feeling sidelined, allegedly lured him to an abandoned 100-foot deep quarry near Mohite Mines. During a heated argument, the minor pushed Mahendra into the pit, killing him.
Mahendra had left home at around 11 a.m., after which his family reported him missing. A police search later uncovered his body at the quarry.
Friendship turned fatal
According to police investigations, Mahendra often shared photos and chat messages with the girl, which further provoked jealousy in his friend. On the day of the incident, their rivalry reached a breaking point.
While the two had once been inseparable classmates, the rivalry for affection spiraled tragically. Police suspect that others may have assisted in the crime and are probing deeper.
Following the incident, the minor did not return home, raising suspicion. During interrogation, he confessed to the murder. Police Inspector Kishore Shinde confirmed the arrest and ongoing investigation.
The case has left Kerle village in shock, as a friendship once admired by many ended in a devastating act of violence.
